Novak Djokovic is likely to announce his withdrawal from the US Open due to injury. It appears that his elbow injury will require further rehabbing.

Novak Djokovic is likely to withdraw from the 2017 US Open. After retiring from his quarterfinals match at Wimbledon, it is clear that the Serbian tennis star requires further rehab.

Reports out of the Tennis Federation of Serbia are that Djokovic will miss anywhere between six and twelve weeks due to a bone bruise on his elbow.

At Wimbledon, the world No. 4 was forced to retire during his match with Tomas Berdych.

While he does have two ATP singles titles on the year, Djokovic is yet to win a Grand Slam since the French Open last year. Swiss tennis great Roger Federer took time away to recover and return to top form last year. In 2017, he has earned two of the three ATP Grand Slam titles so far.

Time away from the court may be necessary if Novak Djokovic wants to make his resurgence.

At the 2017 French Open, the title went to Rafael Nadal. Both he and Federer, thought to be in the twilight of their careers, have fought back brilliantly from injury. Age appears to be just a number to them and Djokovic could do well to rehab and learn from their successful returns to the court.

If he will in fact miss the 2017 US Open, it is important that Novak Djokovic fully addresses his lingering elbow issues. In the future, a reduced touring schedule could be ideal for the Serbian tennis star to bounce back to his dominant form.

World No. 1 Andy Murray also appeared to struggle during the end of his quarterfinals match at Wimbledon. He fell to American Sam Querrey in a five-set thriller. With Djokovic potentially out of the US Open, players such as Murray must take advantage at the upcoming Grand Slam. Murray, however, will need to prove that he is healthy enough to make a deep run. Look for Federer, Nadal, and others such as defending champion Stan Wawrinka to be the players to beat at the 2017 US Open. Stay tuned to see if Djokovic will officially miss the final Grand Slam of the year.
