Caroline Wozniacki: top seed advances at WTA Swedish Open

Caroline Wozniacki is the top seed in women’s singles at the WTA Swedish Open. She wins a hard fought three-set match to advance on Tuesday.

Caroline Wozniacki remains in search of her first WTA Tour singles title in 2017. The former world No. 1 has seen deep runs so far this year and appears poised to win a title.

As the current world No. 6 in women’s singles tennis, Wozniacki is the top seed at the WTA Swedish Open this week. She wins her opener over French veteran Pauline Parmentier.

Wozniacki takes the opening round meeting against Parmentier in three sets. Winning a hard fought battle, she takes the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

At Wimbledon this year, the Danish tennis star advanced to the fourth round of play. It was her sixth time reaching the fourth round at the Grand Slam. Now, she is focused on the upcoming US Open.

Caroline Wozniacki has reached the finals twice at the US Open.

With her resurgence in the last year, the former world No. 1 is on the verge of a Grand Slam title. A win at the WTA Swedish Open could propel her forward in the weeks leading up to the US Open.

Fifth seed Carla Suárez Navarro also wins her opening match at the WTA Swedish Open. In what was a dominant performance, the No. 5 seed takes her opening round match 6-1, 6-0. She now faces Elise Mertens on Wednesday at the WTA Tour event.

Ladies Championship Gstaad winner Kiki Bertens is also in action at the WTA Swedish Open. The No. 6 seed this week wins her opening round match in straight sets. She defeats Carina Witthöft with ease, winning 6-1, 6-4. Look for Bertens to be a strong contender at the Swedish Open. Coming off of her recent title victory, the Dutch professional tennis player now has two WTA singles titles on the year. With competition heating up on the WTA Tour, look for several top players to be at their best this week.
