Andy Murray remains hopeful of his chances at the 2017 US Open. The world No. 1 is rehabbing his hip injury with the intention of playing in the Grand Slam.

Andy Murray is the current world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis. Now, with Novak Djokovic out for the rest of the 2017 ATP World Tour, Murray is aiming to make a run at the US Open.

Playing in the Grand Slam, however, will only be possible if the world No. 1 can properly rehab his hip injury. He remains hopeful of his chances in playing at the major tournament.

Here, Andy Murray posted a picture on Instagram during a pool workout and rehab session last week. The top player in men’s singles tennis is doing all that he can to be competitive at the upcoming Grand Slam.

At Wimbledon this year, Murray was in obvious pain toward the end of his quarterfinals match. He saw a five-set loss to American veteran Sam Querrey. The American took the final two sets of the match 6-1, 6-1. It was clear that the world No. 1 was struggling with his hip.

While he has just one ATP singles title on the year so far, Murray has been able to remain in control of the world No. 1 ranking. On his heels though are both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The Swiss tennis superstar already has two Grand Slam titles on the year. Nadal, with his tenth career win at the French Open, has the other.

With Djokovic out of the way, Murray’s chances improve slightly. He will still, however, need to be healthy enough to compete at the major tournament. He might be able to simply play, but the world No. 1 will need to be rehabbed and recovered enough to make a deep run at the US Open. After what happened at Wimbledon this year, Murray will need to prove that he is able to endure the entirety of the Grand Slam.

The defending champion in men’s singles at the US Open is Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss tennis star is the current world No. 5 in men’s singles tennis. He must not be discounted this year. Wawrinka has three Grand Slam titles in three years. If he hopes to continue his streak, a win at the 2017 US Open is what he needs. Both Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray are seeking their fourth career Grand Slam singles titles.

Stay tuned to see how Andy Murray progresses in the coming weeks. With the US Open rapidly approaching, the world No. 1 will need to do all that he can to prepare for the final Grand Slam event of the 2017 ATP World Tour.
