Atlanta Open action is underway. The tournament is part of the US Open series leading up to the Grand Slam. Here’s a look at the early round action.

Atlanta Open action is underway this week. Second seed John Isner advances into the quarterfinals with his win on Wednesday.

Isner is a three-time champion at the ATP tournament. After finishing runner-up last year to Australian Nick Kyrgios, the American is back competing for a title.

The veteran Isner defeats Vasek Pospisil of Canada is his opening round match. He takes the meeting in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4. Pospisil won a hard fought three-set match to advance and face Isner. The American, however, was in fine form yesterday.

Top seed Jack Sock takes on Dudi Sela of Israel on Thursday.

Sela is a former runner-up at the Atlanta Open. In 2014, he finished second to then champion Isner. The Atlanta Open has been dominated by the veteran American tennis player. In fact, Kyrgios is the only non-American tennis player to win the title.

Another notable win this week came for Gilles Müller. The Luxembourgish tennis veteran already has two ATP singles titles on the year. He is the third seed this week and faces American Tommy Paul on Friday. Look for Müller to be a surprise contender at the Atlanta Open this week. His experience on tour makes him someone to watch in any match.

Other players still in action are fourth seed Ryan Harrison and fifth seed Kyle Edmund. Both have the potential to continue deep into the tournament. Their round of 16 matches take place Thursday afternoon at the Atlanta Open.

With the US Open rapidly approaching, the Atlanta Open is a big opportunity for any player. It is especially critical for both Sock and Inner. The top seed Sock is coming off of a poor performance at Wimbledon where he exited in the second round. Isner, on the other hand, rebounded from his Wimbledon performance by winning the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships last week. Look for him to utilize that newfound momentum at the rest of the Atlanta Open. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds at the tournament.
