Second seed Pablo Cuevas also fell in the round of 32 at the German Open.
Karen Khachanov is seeking his second career ATP singles title.
Last year, the young Russian tennis player took home a title in Chengdu. He defeated Ramos-Vinolas in the final for the victory. Now, the 21-year-old is just steps away from a second career title.
Veteran tennis player David Ferrer was thought to be a strong contender after both top seeds saw upsets. Ferrer is coming off of a title win at the Swedish Open. He, however, falls in the round of 16 to Federico Delbonis of Argentina.
Now, Karen Khachanov squares off with Delbonis in the quarterfinals. The two face one another on Friday at the German Tennis Championships. Also in action is sixth seed Diego Schwartzman. His quarterfinals match against Florian Mayer also takes place on Friday. Mayer, a veteran German tennis player, will have the backing of the crowds. Stay tuned to see how the action unfolds as play continues at the 2017 German Open.
