By Harry Floyd
Leonardo Mayer completes a hard fought quarterfinals victory at the German Tennis Championships 2017. The former champion advances into the semis.
Leonardo Mayer is a former champion at the German Open. Now, he has a shot at another title if he can win just two more matches.
The 30-year-old Argentine tennis player has one ATP singles title in his career. That title came in 2014 when he defeated David Ferrer in three sets to win the German Tennis Championships.

In the semifinals, Mayer takes on fellow countryman Federico Delbonis. The 26-year-old Delbonis defeated third seed Karen Khachanov in order to advance.
Four Argentine tennis players reached the quarterfinals this week. Now, with Mayer and Delbonis in the semifinals against one another, at least one will have a shot at the title.
Leonardo Mayer is the current world No. 138 on the ATP World Tour.
The 30-year-old Mayer may be an unsuspecting contender for the title this week. While he only has the one ATP singles title to his name, he has reached as high as the world No. 21 ranking in his career. That career high also came just two years ago. He has what it takes to make a splash on the ATP World Tour.
Earlier this week, Leonardo Mayer upset top seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The Argentine took the match in three sets, winning 6-7, 6-3, 7-6. He has shown himself to be in control on the court since that match.
Winning his previous two matches in straight sets, Mayer is cruising through play at the 2017 German Open. He defeated Jiří Veselý in straight sets in his quarterfinals match. After a hard fought 7-6 (7-4) first set, Mayer carried his momentum into the second winning 6-3. Mayer takes on Delbonis on Saturday at the German Tennis Championships. Stay tuned to see how the former champion fares at the ATP tournament.
