The greatest men’s tennis player in history is celebrating his 36th birthday on August 8, 2017. Happy Birthday, Roger Federer!

Over the course of the past 19 years, Roger Federer has pieced together the greatest career of any men’s tennis player in history. Between his Grand Slam dominance and his record-setting stretches as the world No. 1, Federer is unparalleled in his brilliance.

In a way, the fact that August 8, 2017 is Federer’s 36th birthday adds to his greatness.

Federer is mere weeks away from pursuing his third Grand Slam title of the 2017 calendar year. That would be impressive at any age, but the fact that he turned 36 mere months after winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon is nothing short of remarkable.

This deep into his tennis career, with miles of wear and tear on his body, Federer is still the most dominant active force in men’s tennis.

After all of the talk of his perceived demise between 2013 and 2016, when he failed to win a single Grand Slam event, Federer is back in top form.

Federer’s resume includes an all-time record 19 Grand Slam titles, including an unmatched eight crowning victories at Wimbledon. He owns the career Grand Slam, has more than 1,100 career wins, and is the No. 3 player in the world at 36 years young.

Federer also holds the all-time ATP records with 302 weeks at No. 1 and 237 consecutive weeks at No. 1, and has the second most year-end No. 1 rankings.

Only Pete Sampras has more.

Federer has also won a record six ATP Finals, with another four years as the runner-up.

As Federer celebrates his 36th birthday, it’s only right to appreciate what he’s done for the sport of tennis. He’s one of the most recognizable athletes in the world, as evidenced by his ranking of No. 4 on the ESPN World Fame 100—a measure of a player’s overall level of popularity.

On the court, he’s been the standard-bearer during the Golden Age of men’s tennis, and has consistently rewritten the record books.
