Elina Svitolina defeats Caroline Wozniacki to win the 2017 Rogers Cup title. She now has five WTA singles titles on the year.
Elina Svitolina defeats Caroline Wozniacki in Toronto this week. She wins the Rogers Cup women’s singles title, taking the finals match in straight sets.
The world No. 4 wins her fifth title on the 2017 WTA Tour. She and men’s champion Alexander Zverev both notched their fifth tour titles with wins this week.

Svitolina defeats Wozniacki in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-0. The dominant finals performance came after she also took down second seeded Simona Halep in the semifinals. The Ukrainian tennis star had defeated Halep 6-1, 6-1.
The world No. 4 was thrilled after her Rogers Cup victory. She continues her finals undefeated streak in 2017. Svitolina is 5-0 in finals this year.
Caroline Wozniacki is now 0-6 in finals matches on the year.
Despite the runner-up finish, the Danish tennis star remains a top player on the WTA Tour. She is the current world No. 5 in women’s singles.
Falling just behind Elina Svitolina in the rankings, Wozniacki also rose one place in the rankings after her run in Toronto. With the US Open rapidly approaching, both players have a shot at the title. Halep has largely been considered a top contender for the title, but Svitolina’s fifth title makes her an interesting pick at the Grand Slam.
The Rogers Cup win throws the world No. 4 into the top spot in the Race to Singapore. She has surged as of late and will be battling Halep for points in the coming weeks. The 22-year-old Ukrainian tennis player now has nine career singles titles. She has also reached her highest ranking as of yet. In 2016, she reached the third round of play at the US Open. Her fourth round appearance at Wimbledon this year and her five titles have given her enormous tournament experience. Elina Svitolina is now 44-9 in singles matches this year.
