It’s still unclear as to whether or not Federer will play in the upcoming Cincinnati Open. Top players Marin Cilic and Andy Murray have already withdrawn due to injury. With the US Open right around the corner, all eyes are on the top players in men’s singles.

Alexander Zverev is now the world No. 7 on the ATP World Tour.

The Rogers Cup title is further recognition that the young German tennis player is the future of the sport. He has surged on the 2017 ATP World Tour and is now in third place in the Race to London.

Top men’s singles players Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka have withdrawn from the remainder of the season. That makes way for younger players such as Zverev to continue making his mark on the sport. A strong performance at the 2017 US Open can put the German NextGenATP player in a prime position for London.

Action at the Cincinnati Open will have an impact on the world No. 1 ranking. Currently, Murray remains in control, but his withdrawing from the event opens up the possibility of either Rafael Nadal or Federer overtaking him. The Swiss superstar has said that he will make his decision about playing the tournament in the coming days. Nadal is the current world No. 2 and is first in the Race to London. Stay tuned to see how action at both the Cincinnati and US Open unfold in the coming weeks.
