With the 2017 US Open on the horizon, three American players are ranked in the Top 20 on the ATP World Tour: John Isner, Sam Querrey, and Jack Sock.

The resurrection of American men’s tennis is continuing to gain traction. As the next generation prepares for an era that could restore the glory of yesteryear, the current stars are doing everything in their power to keep the U.S. relevant.

That process recently reached a turning point, as three American men have earned the distinction of being Top 20 players.

2017 has been an excellent season for American men on the ATP World Tour. Sam Querrey became the first American male to reach the semifinal of a Grand Slam tournament since 2009, Jack Sock is realizing his potential, and John Isner has won two ATP titles since June.

As the 2017 US Open nears, all three of those players can be found in the Top 20 of the ATP World Tour rankings.

That may not be equal to a Grand Slam being won, but it’s a sign that American men’s tennis is on the rise.

Sock is ranked the highest of any American male at No. 16 in the world. Close to him are Isner at No. 19 and Querrey at No. 20, which firmly establishes the return to relevance that the three individuals are leading.

With the final Grand Slam of the year nearing, all three individuals will be looked at as dark horses to make a deep run at Flushing Meadows.

If Isner, Querrey, Sock or any other American male were to make a run, it would be a massive leap in the pursuit of elusive glory.

Isner, Querrey, and Sock have combined to win six ATP World Tour titles during the 2017 calendar year. That includes Querrey’s remarkable title run in Acapulco, where he defeated the likes of David Goffin, Nick Kyrgios, Rafael Nadal, and Dominic Thiem.

Isner won the Hall of Fame Open and Atlanta Open, and Sock took home titles at the ASB Classic and Delray Beach Open. Sock also reached the semifinals at the BNP Paribas Open.
