Rising American star Frances Tiafoe has secured the biggest win of his young career by upsetting Alexander Zverev at the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.

The future of American men’s tennis is in the hands of one of the most promising groups in quite some time. The likes of Jared Donaldson, Ernesto Escobedo, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe are leading a promising push towards a brighter future.

With Donaldson in the midst of the best stretch of his career, Tiafoe is making sure that fans remember why he’s viewed as the next great American player.

Tiafoe has garnered hype from around the ATP World Tour. He’s been praised by the Big Four for his natural ability and athleticism, as well as the work ethic that he’s hoping will carry him into the ranks of the world’s elite.

There’s still a significant measure of work to be done, but Tiafoe took a significant step in the right direction when he upset Alexander Zverev at the Western & Southern Open.

Prior to the loss to Tiafoe, Zverev had won 10 consecutive matches and back-to-back tournaments, including the 2017 Rogers Cup.

At 19 years of age, Tiafoe is the youngest player on the ATP World Tour Top 100 rankings. That’s been more of an obstacle than a genuine deterrent to success, as the Maryland native has achieved a number of promising results in 2017.

Tiafoe upset Robin Haase for a Round 1 victory at Wimbledon, won Roger Federer’s respect at the Miami Open, and has secured two ATP Challenger Tour titles in 2017 alone.

Coming off of the biggest victory of his early career, it’s safe to say Tiafoe is positioning himself for a quality run in Flushing Meadows.

Tiafoe will be a player to watch at the 2017 US Open. Expectations are realistically low for a 19-year-old, but the field has been depleted by injuries, and he’s already won matches at two Grand Slam events in 2017.

Following his win over Zverev, who’s ranked as one of the Top 10 players in the world, Tiafoe has as much momentum as ever before.

It may not occur in 2017, but Frances Tiafoe is inching closer to a legitimate breakthrough as one of the top players on the ATP World Tour.
