Simona Halep is advancing far at the Cincinnati Masters. Can she take that momentum and win her first ever Grand Slam singles title at the US Open?

Simona Halep is the current world No. 2 in women’s singles tennis. She is right behind No. 1 Karolina Pliskova and on the heels of Elina Svitolina in the Race to Singapore.

With her strong play so far on the 2017 WTA Tour, the Romanian tennis star can make a deep run at the US Open. Will it be her first ever Grand Slam singles title?

More from Lob and Smash

Earlier in the year, Halep finished runner-up at the French Open. It was just her second ever finals appearance at a Grand Slam. Her previous second place finish also happened to be at Roland Garros in 2014.

Now, Simona Halep is eyeing a Grand Slam title yet again.

Play at the US Open is right around the corner. The world No. 2 has seen deep runs in all of her recent WTA tournaments. At Wimbledon this year, she reached the quarterfinals where she fell in a tough three-set match to Johanna Konta.

Another player to watch at this year’s US Open is Caroline Wozniacki. The former world No. 1 and Danish tennis star is also searching for her first ever Grand Slam singles title. She has an impressive 25 WTA Tour singles titles to her name. Wozniacki is also a two-time runner-up at the major tournament.

Both Halep and Wozniacki have reached the quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Masters. They are eyeing a highly sought after title as they head into play at the US Open.

Simona Halep reached the semifinals at the 2015 US Open. She has plenty of major tournament and big stage experience under her belt despite being just 25-years-old. The surge we are seeing from the Romanian tennis star in 2017 is setting her up for a Grand Slam at any moment. While it seemed she was set for the title at Roland Garros, another young up and comer Jelena Ostapenko did the unexpected and earned the title.
