Fresh off of the biggest win of his career, 26-year-old phenom Grigor Dimitrov has moved into the Top 10 on the ATP World Tour.

Grigor Dimitrov was once heralded as the future of the ATP World Tour. In what was an admittedly unfair discussion, many in the tennis world drew comparisons between he and the most decorated player in the history of men’s tennis: Roger Federer.

While the tennis world was busy pondering if Dimitrov could live up to those lofty expectations, he’s been polishing his game to the point of becoming a Top 10 player in the world.

Dimitrov has faced his fair share of criticism for underachievement during his professional tennis career. He has the talent to be a dominant force, but hasn’t yet strung together enough championship success to truly justify the hype.

Following the biggest win of his professional career, however, Dimitrov has made a triumphant return to the Top 10.

It’s been an up and down year for Dimitrov, but he seems to have found stability during what’s become the best season of his career.

Dimitrov started the year off by winning an impressive title in Brisbane, Australia. He defeated the likes of Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, and Dominic Thiem, which set the stage for one of the best Grand Slam performances of his career.

Dimitrov made a powerful run to the semifinals at the Australian Open, where he ultimately lost to Rafael Nadal in a five-set instant classic.

That run in Melbourne marked his second career semifinal appearance at a Grand Slam, with the first coming at Wimbledon in 2014.

Most recently, Dimitrov secured his first career Masters 1000 title at the Western & Southern Open. He defeated the likes of John Isner, Nick Kyrgios, Feliciano Lopez, and Juan Martin del Potro on his way to that momentous achievement.

With a depleted field at the 2017 US Open, few players will have a spotlight shining brighter on them than Dimitrov.
