Pablo Carreño Busta aims to defend Winston-Salem title

Pablo Carreño Busta starts his campaign to defend the Winston-Salem Open title on Tuesday. He squares off against Julien Benneteau.
Pablo Carreño Busta is the current world No. 16 in men’s singles tennis. His 2017 ATP World Tour has seen him win a title in Estoril and reach his career high ranking of No. 15.
The Spanish tennis star is the second seed this week at the Winston-Salem Open. He is also the defending singles champion and looks to start another title run on Tuesday.

Carreño Busta faces Julien Benneteau Tuesday evening at the Winston-Salem Open. Benneteau won his opening match against fellow countryman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in straight sets. He took the match 6-3, 6-2.
Pablo Carreño Busta has three ATP singles titles in the past two years.
The 26-year-old Spanish tennis player is surging in the previous two years. Not only did he reach his career high this year, but he has also three ATP singles titles to his name since 2016.
Carreño Busta’s fellow countryman Roberto Bautista Agut is the top seed this week at the Winston-Salem Open. He opens his tournament against Dušan Lajović of Serbia on Tuesday. With a 34-15 singles record and one ATP title on the year, Bautista Agut is ranked one position above Pablo Carreño Busta. He is the current world No. 15 in men’s singles tennis.
Action at the Winston-Salem is an opportunity for players such as Carreño Busta to gain some last minute momentum going into the US Open. Last year, he reached the third round of play at the US Open for just the second time in his career. His fantastic play since then makes him an interesting player to watch in the coming days.

Also in action at the Winston-Salem Open on Tuesday is third seed John Isner. The American won two back-to-back titles in the month of July and comes in as the world No. 14 in men’s singles tennis. He takes on Andrey Kuznetsov Tuesday night at the tournament. Isner is a former two-time champion at the tournament, having won in both 2011 and 2012. Along with Pablo Carreño Busta, Isner headlines the evening action in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
