All eyes on the WTA Tour have turned to the 2017 US Open. Who is under the most pressure to win the final Grand Slam of the calendar year?

The 2017 US Open projects to be one of the most influential events in recent tennis history. The final Grand Slam of the calendar year will provide a platform for a WTA star other than six-time champion Serena Williams to significantly improve their resume.

While every player on tour will be eyeing the prize, a select few will be facing the burden of expectations that come with their respective track records.

In some instances, the stars facing the most pressure are those who have crumbled beneath the high expectations set for them. In others, the players on this list are those who have reached new heights of success, but have yet to sustain it.

Regardless of their circumstances, there’s no denying that the players on this slideshow are facing higher expectations than most at the 2017 US Open.

If one of the five players on this list were to win the US Open, it would significantly aid their respective legacies. Without Williams in the field, it stands to reason that an unexpected star will rise in profile and all-time significance.
