While the news is disappointing for Raonic and tennis fans alike, the world No. 11 is hopeful that he will return to action before the end of 2017.
Top players Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, and Novak Djokovic are all already out for the rest of the year.
Milos Raonic remains in search of his first ever Grand Slam singles title. In 2016, he did reach the finals at Wimbledon. He will have to wait until next year for another shot at a Grand Slam title.
The Canadian tennis star had reached the fourth round of play at the US open three times throughout his career.
The key players to watch at this year’s US Open continue to be Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Combined, they have all three of the previous Grand Slam titles in 2017. Andy Murray is hopeful that he will be healthy enough to make a title run. With Milos Raonic being the latest to withdraw, this also increases the possibility for another young or brand new champion in men’s singles at the major tournament.
Federer and Nadal will be the favorites, but the absence of another key player such as Raonic makes the field even more interesting. Read Milos Raonic’s full statement about the withdrawal on his Facebook page here.
