Simona Halep remains positive after her opening round US Open loss to Maria Sharapova. She adds another member to her team in the wake of the defeat.
Simona Halep is staying positive after her opening round loss to Maria Sharapova at the 2017 US Open. The Romanian tennis star drew what was one of the most difficult matches of the first round.
After the match, Halep refused to accept any claims that she is unlucky. Although she remains in search of her first ever Grand Slam title, the world No. 2 has had a fantastic year on the WTA Tour.

Halep adds fellow Romanian Andrei Pavel to her team. Intent on becoming the best in women’s singles tennis, the world No. 2 is not letting one match determine her future.
Pavel, a former world No. 13 on the ATP World Tour, is from Halep’s hometown of Constanta.
Having an impressive tennis resume, Pavel boasts nearly a decade of Top 100 action on the ATP World Tour. He has three singles titles to his name and has seen several deep major tournament runs.
While the loss to Sharapova is a disappointment, the Romanian is a top contender in the Race to Singapore. She will be working hard in the coming weeks to avenge her early US Open exit. Look for Simona Halep to finish out the year strong.
The world No. 2 insists that nothing will change regarding the rest of her current team. The addition of Pavel seems to be a move to inject his expertise into team Halep’s current approach. Pavel has previously worked with former world No. 1 Jelena Janković and also coaches Tamira Paszek of Austria. Stay tuned to see how Halep fares throughout the rest of the 2017 WTA Tour. The end of year finals tournament will take place in Kallang, Singapore in late October. Currently, Garbine Muguruza leads the rankings for the WTA Finals.
