The British tennis star is set to skip play in Beijing and Shanghai. Leaving little room for any kind of return this year, Murray says he is preparing for play at Brisbane in 2018.

The decision by Murray is in the best interest of his career. After consulting with doctors and his team, the tennis star has seen that his best chances at recovery include time away from the sport. While surgery remains an option, Murray and his team are looking to see what rest does for his lingering hip injury.
Nothing is set in stone, but the world No. 2 did announce that he will also likely miss play in Vienna and Paris. It appears as though Andy Murray is aiming for a 2018 return to court.
Andy Murray last played against Sam Querrey at Wimbledon.
During his quarterfinals Wimbledon meeting with Querrey, Murray appeared visibly hurt toward the end of the match. The British tennis star was not able to give his best effort in the five-set epic against the American. Rest and recovery seems to be exactly what he needs right now.
Fellow top tennis players Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka, among others, are also taking time away to recover from injury. With several top players out for the remainder of the 2017 ATP World Tour, the door is wide open for a newcomer at the end of season finals. While Rafael Nadal does still remain alive at the US Open, there is also room for an unexpected men’s champion at the Grand Slam event. Nadal faces 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro on Friday. Also in action is Kevin Anderson against Pablo Carreño Busta in the other semifinals match. Stay tuned to see how the 2017 ATP World Tour unfolds.
