Sam Querrey had another impressive performance at the 2017 US Open. Here’s a look at the American’s quarterfinal run at Flushing Meadows.

Sam Querrey reached the quarterfinals at the 2017 US Open. He would ultimately fall to runner-up men’s singles finisher Kevin Anderson. His run at the Grand Slam, however, is just one of his many successes on the 2017 ATP World Tour.

While the women’s singles side of the tournament featured four American players in the quarterfinals and then semis, Querrey was the sole American on the men’s side.

Sloane Stephens defeated Madison Keys to earn the women’s singles title this year. She emerged victorious out of an all-American semifinals field on the women’s singles side.

Querrey, despite his strong 2017 tour, was arguably not the favorite American on the men’s side of the major tournament. Tenth seed John Isner earned two titles in July to boost himself in the rankings, leaving Querrey chasing right behind him.

Sam Querrey dropped just one set before his quarterfinals loss to Kevin Anderson.

After the US Open, the 29-year-old American jumped five spots in the singles rankings. He is now just ahead of fellow countryman Isner. The early American favorite in 2017, Jack Sock, splashed out of play at Flushing Meadows in the first round.

The French Open is only major tournament this year where Sam Querrey did not see at least two match wins. His run at the Australian Open was cut short in the third round when he lost to Andy Murray. Later in the year, at Wimbledon, Querrey avenged his earlier loss and defeated Murray to advance into the semifinals. The quarterfinals run at the US Open is just another cherry on top of an already stellar year. It is also the furthest he has ever advanced at Flushing Meadows.
