Timea Babos is into the quarterfinals at the Coupe Banque Nationale. She is seeking her second WTA singles title on the year.

Timea Babos enters the quarterfinals in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. She is the third seed in the WTA Tour International tournament this week.

Claiming a major win in the round of 16, she defeats Great Britain’s Naomi Broady in three sets. Babos takes the match, winning 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Up next for Babos in Quebec is Canada’s own Francoise Abanda. The 20-year-old Canadian is the current world No. 122 in women’s singles tennis. Babos, on the other hand, is the current world No. 63 on the WTA Tour. She is the heavy favorite.

Timea Babos earned a WTA singles title earlier this year in Budapest.

The Coupe Banque Nationale is her first tournament following play at the 2017 US Open.

Babos saw a tough second round exit at the Grand Slam. She fell to former world No. 1 and champion Maria Sharapova in three sets. Sharapova took the match 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-1. The meeting with Sharapova was an unfortunate consequence of the seedings, although Babos put up a strong fight in the first two sets. She had previously reached the third round of play at the US Open twice.

Also seeking a quarterfinals appearance in Quebec is top seed Lucie Safarova.

The Czech tennis star is the current world No. 33 in women’s singles tennis. She faces 18-year-old American up and comer Sofia Kenin on Thursday. A win would be huge for the young American who already has three ITF titles to her name. The young American is the current world No. 112 in women’s singles and looks to upset the favored Czech veteran. She is seeking her first ever WTA singles title.
