Bautista Agut defeats Troicki in straight sets, taking the match 6-1, 6-2.
After a tough three-set opening round match against Brazil’s Rogerio Dutra Silva, the top seed found his rhythm against Troicki. The 29-year-old Spanish professional tennis player is seeking his third ATP singles title on the 2017 ATP World Tour.
Roberto Bautista Agut is 41-16 so far in singles matches this year.
2017 has proven to be another breakout year for the Spanish tennis star. He has seen two title victories to go along with several strong runs at big tournaments.
Still in action at the St. Petersburg Open are Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Fabio Fognini. As the No. 2 and 3 seeds respectively, either player could challenge Bautista Agut for the title. Already into the semifinals along with the top seed is Damir Džumhur of Bosnia. He is the world No. 55 and will likely play the role of underdog against any player he matches up with next. In his quarterfinals match, Džumhur defeated Liam Broady 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
A win at the St. Petersburg Open would also help Roberto Bautista Agut in the singles Race to London. He is currently sitting in the No. 15 position just behind Tomas Berdych. Action continues at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament on Friday. Stay tuned to see how the semifinals and finals shape up as we head into the weekend.
