Wuhan Open: the finals are set at the Premier 5 tournament

Wuhan Open action reaches the finals with two young up and coming players going head-to-head. Caroline Garcia faces Ashleigh Barty.

Wuhan Open action is into the finals with Caroline Garcia taking on Ashleigh Barty.

Both players cruised through their semifinals matches with ease. Barty earned a major upset over eighth seeded Jelena Ostapenko, winning the match 6-3, 6-0.

Barty has one WTA Tour singles title on the year. Earlier this year, she won in Kuala Lumpur. The title victory was her first ever WTA singles title.

Caroline Garcia is the current world No. 20 on the WTA Tour and has three career singles titles.

The French tennis player might have a slight edge over Barty in the finals. With a bit more experience on the WTA Tour, Garcia looks to earn her first title on the year.

Having just defeated the French Open champion, however, Barty is red hot this week at the Wuhan Open.

The 21-year-old Australian tennis player has a 34-13 WTA singles record on the year. Her current world No. 37 ranking is a career high for Barty. Momentum may be slightly in her favor right now, but she will need to remained focused against Garcia.

Finals action takes place on Saturday at the 2017 Wuhan Open.

The WTA Tour Premier 5 tournament is in its fourth year. Defending champion Petra Kvitova is a two-time winner with American Venus Williams taking the title in 2015. With neither of the previous two champions in the mix, the title is guaranteed to goto a new player. The tournament is just one of many this year that has featured rising stars in the finals. The 2017 WTA Tour is seeing a new generation of women’s singles players emerge.
