Caroline Wozniacki qualifies for 2017 WTA Finals in Singapore

Caroline Wozniacki is into her fifth career WTA Finals. The former world No. 1 is the sixth player to qualify for this year’s field.

Caroline Wozniacki becomes the sixth player to qualify for the 2017 WTA Finals.

A former world No. 1, Wozniacki is surging on this year’s WTA Tour. She is the current world No. 6 in women’s singles tennis and has one title to her name on the year.

Wozniacki joins an already stellar field of players for the end of year finals. Other players who have qualified include Garbiñe Muguruza, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and Venus Williams.

Caroline Wozniacki also wins her opener at the 2017 China Open.

Immediately following the news of her qualification, Wozniacki opened strong at the China Open. She defeats home player Wang Qiang in three sets. The Danish tennis star takes the hard fought match, winning 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-1.

Action on the 2017 WTA Tour is heating up down the stretch. Muguruza continues her strong play and remains the player to beat in women’s singles tennis. The world No. 1 is in play at the China Open on Monday at the tournament. Players such as Wozniacki, however, can challenge her in the coming weeks.

Caroline Wozniacki faces Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia next at the China Open. The Russian is the current world No. 19 in women’s singles tennis. She already has two WTA singles titles on the year. They square off on Monday at the WTA tournament. This week, Wozniacki is the fifth seed at the tournament.

In 2010, Wozniacki finished runner-up at the WTA Finals. Her experience throughout her career and at the end of year finals makes her an interesting pick to win.
