Rafael Nadal tops Nick Kyrgios, wins 2nd China Open title

Rafael Nadal continues to prove himself as the world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis. He defeats Nick Kyrgios to earn the 2017 China Open title.

Rafael Nadal cruises past Nick Kyrgios to earn his second China Open title.

The world No. 1 continues his dominance over men’s singles tennis by taking down the world No. 19 in straight sets. He win the finals meeting in Beijing 6-2, 6-1.

Kyrgios, who is largely unpredictable as of late, last played on tour at the 2017 US Open. He did make an appearance at the Laver Cup too before playing in the China Open. His week featured a semifinals victory over German tennis star Alexander Zverev.

The young Australian could not, however, keep up with the red hot Nadal in the finals.

The Spanish superstar last won the China Open in 2005. He then finished runner-up twice before tasting glory yet again this year.

The ATP World Tour event has been dominated by Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic over the past decade. Djokovic has a record six titles on the men’s singles side of the tournament. His absence this year due to injury made room for the likes of Nadal and others to shine. Nadal, who now has an impressive six ATP singles titles on the year, is heading into the final months of the tour in fantastic form.

Rafael Nadal’s run in Beijing featured wins over Grigor Dimitrov and John Isner in the quarterfinals and semis. The world No. 1 has stepped up anytime he has encountered a top ranked player. There is no doubt that both Nadal and Roger Federer remain the players to beat down the stretch.

Up next for the world No. 1 is action at the Shanghai Masters. He faces young American tennis player Jared Donaldson on Monday. Nadal is the top seed at the Shanghai Masters and should bring his momentum from Beijing into the tournament.
