As Karolina Pliskova was cruising through her match with Garbine Muguruza, Williams needed to pull out all the stops against Ostapenko. The 20-year-old Latvian is in the midst of a career year. Earlier in the 2017 WTA Tour, she earned the women’s singles title at the French Open.

Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza will square off to determine the White Group’s second semifinalist.

The 37-year-old Williams has seen somewhat of a resurgence on the 2017 WTA Tour. While she may be an underdog moving forward, she has the experience necessary to outlast anyone.

Venus Williams finished runner-up at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. At Wimbledon, she fell to Muguruza, who she will face next in Singapore. Both players have had strong years and have been tested already at the WTA Finals. Each will need to bring her best play to the court in their upcoming match.
