Swiss Indoors: Roger Federer does it again, wins 95th career title

Swiss Indoors action concludes with another career milestone for Roger Federer. The tennis superstar notches his 95th career title.

Swiss Indoors action sees Roger Federer rising to the occasion in his hometown yet agin.

The 19-time Grand Slam singles champion now has 95 career singles titles. He passes Ivan Lendl, moving into second for total titles in the Open Era behind Jimmy Connors.

Federer defeats Juan Martin del Potro in the finals. Winning his eighth career title at the Swiss Indoors, the 36-year-old continues to amaze even the best in the sport.

Roger Federer takes the finals meeting in three sets, winning 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3.

Up next is the ATP Finals in London. While Rafael Nadal is searching for his first career win at the end of year tournament, Federer is already a six-time winner. His title in Basel is just the momentum he needs heading into play at the O2 Arena.

With just the Paris Masters standing between Federer and the ATP Finals, he inches even closer to Nadal in the singles rankings. Currently, Nadal has a 1,460 point lead over the Swiss superstar. The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Paris will also give the Spanish superstar a chance to get into a rhythm leading into London.

The title win at the Swiss Indoors makes seven on the year for Roger Federer. It is one of the best years on the ATP World Tour for the Swiss star in nearly a decade. His two Grand Slam wins kept him ahead of Nadal in total major tournaments wins. Nadal also earned two Grand Slam titles in 2017. Both are the clear favorites heading into the ATP Finals.

With the final weeks of the 2017 ATP World Tour upon us, play continues to heat up. Several young players have already qualified to take on the veterans Federer and Nadal in London. While Roger Federer has dominated the year so far, he will undoubtedly want to close out 2017 with a title in London. As Novak Djokovic and others are out due to injury, Federer’s experience and red hot play gives him a huge edge. Look for him to continue his fine play in the coming weeks.
