Roger Federer: favorite in ATP Finals opener against Jack Sock

Roger Federer headlines the Boris Becker group at the 2017 ATP Finals in London. Here’s a look at how he stacks up against American Jack Sock.
Roger Federer is the heavy favorite against recent Paris Masters champion Jack Sock. The young American will need to carry all the momentum he has from Paris right into action at The O2 Arena.
The Swiss tennis superstar is 3-0 against the young American throughout their careers. Earlier this year, he defeated Sock at the Indian Wells semifinals.

Also featured in the Boris Becker grouping is Alexander Zverev and 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic. Despite Federer’s brilliance so far on the 2017 ATP World Tour, the road through the round robin stage will not be easy.
Roger Federer is just 2-2 against rising star Alexander Zverev.
The Swiss great has fared far better against both Sock and Cilic throughout his career. He is 7-1 against Cilic, having recently defeated him at the 2017 Wimbledon finals. Federer has a 52-12 career record at the ATP Finals and will seek his seventh career title at the event.
Only Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic have tasted glory since the world No. 2’s most recent finals title in 2011. While Djokovic has largely dominated the tournament in recent years, he is out for the rest of the year due to injury. Look for the Swiss great to take advantage of Djokovic’s absence. Federer and the young American square off on Sunday at The O2 Arena.

The 2017 ATP World Tour has seen the return of the old Roger Federer. With a beyond impressive 49-4 ATP singles record on the year, he is playing some of his best tennis. He also holds seven titles in 2017 which include two Grand Slam wins. Add on his experience at the end of year event and the Swiss great is undoubtedly a heavy favorite in the round robin stage of the tournament.
Sock may be witnessing a serendipitous ending to his 2017 ATP World Tour. His qualifying for the ATP Finals in London came unexpectedly after his title at the Paris Masters. The young American tennis star will need to continue along his current hot streak if he hopes to advance through the round robin stage.
