Fed Cup: United States tops Belarus thanks to CoCo Vandeweghe

Team USA claims victory at the 2017 Fed Cup over Belarus. CoCo Vandeweghe helps the United States earn its 18th Fed Cup title.

Fed Cup 2017 action concludes with an 18th title for the United States.

Thanks to the strong play of American CoCo Vandeweghe, team USA defeats Belarus 3-2 over the weekend to win the title. Vandeweghe wins all three of her matches in order to seal the victory for the United States.

Coming down to the doubles match, Americans Shelby Rogers and Vandeweghe rose to the occasion. Vandeweghe opened Sunday’s action with a 7-6 (1), 6-1 win over Aryna Sabalenka. Then, she joined Rogers, propelling the United States to victory.

Vandeweghe and Rogers wins their doubles meeting 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Digging deep, Vandeweghe kept the team ahead throughout the entirety of their doubles match. While Rogers turned cold in the first set, her partner kept the team in it throughout. Both players relied on one another during the match.

Closing out the year in the WTA Tour Top 10, Vandeweghe adds a Fed Cup title to her resume. There is no doubt that she is one of the players to watch on the 2018 WTA Tour. The 25-year-old is just one of many rising stars in women’s singles tennis. She continues to amaze when on the court and this weekend was no exception.

Vandeweghe is one of just three players to claim three points in a Fed Cup final since 1995. Her fantastic play is exactly what the United States needed in their meeting with Belarus. The United States is now 18-11 when playing in Fed Cup finals.
