Hyeon Chung wins 2017 Next Generation ATP Finals title

Hyeon Chung is the 2017 Next Generation ATP Finals champion. The South Korean defeats Russian star and top seed Andrey Rublev.
Hyeon Chung caps off a stellar year on the ATP World Tour with the Next Generation ATP Finals title in Milan, Italy.
The South Korean defeats the top seed at this year’s event. Taking down Russian Andrey Rublev in the finals, Chung wins their meeting 3-4 (5), 4-3 (2), 4-2, 4-2.

At just 21-years-old, Chung is making a name for himself in men’s singles tennis. Winning the Next Generation ATP Finals title is without a doubt the biggest achievement of his career thus far.
Earlier in the year, Hyeon Chung reached the semifinals at play in Munich, Germany.
His strong run in Munich came just after an impressive quarterfinals appearance in Barcelona, Spain. On the year, he has put together solid tournament runs to give himself a 29-18 singles record on the ATP World Tour.
Look for Hyeon Chung to be a player to beat in 2018. He has seen wins over several veteran and top players in men’s singles tennis this year. His win at the Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan is just the icing on the cake for the rising South Korean tennis star. As for Rublev, he too is undoubtedly a player to watch in the coming years.

Play in Milan was without top qualifier Alexander Zverev. The young German tennis star had such a strong year that he also qualified for the ATP Finals in London. Zverev is the current world No. 3 on the ATP World Tour and remains in action at The O2 Arena this week.
Elsewhere in the ATP Finals, Roger Federer continues to amaze. Winning his opening two matches at the end of year tournament, the Swiss great solidifies his place in the semifinals. Federer is seeking his seventh career title at the ATP Finals. Year-end world No. 1 Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from play due to a knee injury. He loses his opener against Belgian David Goffin before the withdrawal. Despite his absence from the remainder of the tournament, Nadal has had one of the best year’s of his career.
