David Goffin is into the semifinals at the 2017 ATP Finals in London. He is set to try out a new strategy against Roger Federer on Saturday.
David Goffin defeats Dominic Thiem in his final match of the round robin stage at the 2017 ATP Finals. The Belgian is now set to face Roger Federer on Saturday.
The world No. 8 will need to find a way to beat Federer for the first time. He hopes to reach the finals in London with a win over Federer. The Swiss great is 6-0 against the younger Goffin.

Federer last faced Goffin in Basel earlier this year. The Swiss superstar gave up just three games to the Belgian throughout his straight set victory. He will be the clear favorite in their semifinals meeting on Saturday.
The world No. 8 defeats Thiem in straight sets to advance in London. He takes their meeting, winning 6-4, 6-1. While it is a disappointing end for Thiem, the young Austrian had a strong run on the 2017 ATP World Tour.

As for Goffin, he will need a new strategy when it comes to facing Federer. The Belgian tennis star defeated year-end world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in his opening match. He is yet to defeat Federer, however, throughout his career. After his win over Thiem, Goffin commented on what it will take to claim victory over the nineteen-time Grand Slam winner.

He returned so well. So it was not easy in Basel. I hope that tomorrow he’s not going to play the same match. Federer has dropped just four singles matches on the 2017 ATP World Tour. As he seeks his seventh career ATP Finals title, Goffin will need to do everything in his power to beat him.

David Goffin and Roger Federer are set for their semifinals meeting on Saturday. Elsewhere, Grigor Dimitrov will square off against American tennis star Jack Sock at The O2 Arena. With Federer leading the field, he remains the clearcut favorite to win this weekend. The younger crop of players, however, can pull the surprise upset.
