Alexander Zverev completes career year on ATP World Tour

Alexander Zverev completes a career year on the 2017 ATP World Tour. The young German tennis star has become one of the best in men’s singles.
Alexander Zverev is just 20-years-old and has already become a household name in men’s singles tennis. He is the younger brother of veteran German star Mischa Zverev.
After winning his first ever Masters 1000 title in Rome, the younger Zverev cracked the ATP’s elusive top 10. Since then, he has not stopped rising in the rankings.

Zverev’s play this year made him the top seed to qualify for the Next Generation ATP Finals in Milan. He would skip Milan, however, in order to play at the 2017 ATP Finals in London.

Posting a 55-22 singles match record on the year, Zverev finishes 2017 as the world No. 4 in men’s singles tennis. ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov slides just past him into the world No. 3 position to close out the year.
Throughout his fantastic 2017 ATP World Tour, Zverev featured match wins over several top players in men’s singles tennis. Most notably, the young star went toe to toe with Swiss great Roger Federer. The nineteen-time Grand Slam champion defeated Zverev early in the year before the young German redeemed himself in Montreal. Winning his first ever Masters 1000 title, Zverev defeated Federer 6-3, 6-4 to earn the Rogers Cup finals victory.

Other titles claimed by Zverev in 2017 include wins in Washington, Rome, Munich, and Montpellier. Standing tall at 6’6″, the young tennis star is a force to be reckoned with on the courts. He strong serve and especially second serve have proven difficult for even the best in the sport to contend with. Look for Alexander Zverev to be a top player in men’s singles tennis on the 2018 ATP World Tour. He is eyeing playing in Australia already.
Elsewhere on the tour, Rafael Nadal ends the year as the world No. 1. He and Federer largely dominated their 2017 campaigns. At the ATP Finals in London, however, Dimitrov claimed glory for the first time in his career. Men’s singles tennis is seeing a stellar mix of veteran talent and young and up and coming stars.
