Lucas Pouille defeats Steve Darcis to win Davis Cup final

Lucas Pouille gives France their 10th Davis Cup title. He defeats Belgium’s Steve Darcis in straight sets on Sunday for the victory.

Defeating the Belgians, Pouille and his French teammates survive the comeback started by David Goffin on Sunday. He defeats Steve Darcis in straight sets for the win.

Pouille takes down Darcis, winning 6-3, 6-1, 6-0. The younger French tennis star took down the veteran Darcis in their Davis Cup final meeting.

France now has 10 Davis Cup titles.

David Goffin evened the meeting between Belgium and France at 2-2. His straight set win over France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga put the team in a position to complete the comeback victory. He defeated Tsonga, winning 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-2. Then, it came down to play between Pouille and Darcis in the deciding match late Sunday at the event.

Dropping to the floor after his win, Pouille was plenty emotional in his victory. At just 23-years-old, the young French tennis player is a rising star in his country and in all of men’s singles tennis. The Davis Cup win thrusts him back into the spotlight. Winning the overall meeting 3-2, France takes down Belgium to become champions.

Look for Lucas Pouille to continue his fine play on the 2018 ATP World Tour. His Davis Cup performance is just one of many recent successes for the young French tennis star. As the current world No. 18 in men’s singles tennis, Pouille earned three ATP singles titles on the year. He posted a singles match record of 35-21 in 2017 and now adds a Davis Cup win to his resume.
