David Goffin: Belgian sees career year on ATP World Tour

David Goffin finishes the 2017 ATP World Tour as the world No. 7 in men’s singles. He completes what was a career year on tour.

David Goffin finishes runner-up at the end of year ATP Finals in London.

His debut appearance at the event, however, marked a fantastic ending to a career year. He drops the finals meeting at The O2 Arena to Grigor Dimitrov in three sets, losing 7–5, 4–6, 6–3. Despite the tough ending, Goffin has proven himself to be among the best in the sport.

At 26-years-old, the Belgian has a solid mix of both veteran experience and youthful talent. Two of his four career ATP singles titles came on the 2017 ATP World Tour. He will be a top contender in any tournament he plays in during the next year.

David Goffin posted a 59-24 singles match record on the 2017 ATP World Tour.

His two titles on the year came in Shenzhen and Tokyo. Earning over three million dollars in prize winnings in 2017, Goffin is riding high as he moves into his next year on tour.

Both of Goffin’s previous two titles came during the 2014 ATP World Tour. He has seen himself grow into a new player since then, reaching his career high ranking of No. 7 in November of 2017. His ATP Finals run capped his best year on tour yet. Now, the Belgian is primed to break into the top five in men’s singles tennis.

Veterans Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal remain the players to beat in men’s singles tennis, but those such as David Goffin can make a run at any moment. Seeing some big tournament success in 2017, fans can give the Belgian an outside chance at a Grand Slam title in the coming year. This past tour saw him reach the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. With that being the first major tournament in 2018, Goffin will aim to take advantage of his end of year momentum.
