Marin Cilic remains atop the rankings in men’s singles tennis

Marin Cilic continues to remain atop the rankings in men’s singles tennis. The Croatian tennis star is near his career high best on the ATP World Tour.
Marin Cilic ends the 2017 ATP World Tour in the world No. 6 position.
The Croatian tennis star is a former world No. 4 in men’s singles tennis. His strong 2017 campaign saw him rise in the rankings. Cilic posted a 44-22 singles match record to go along with his one title win on the year.

Cilic unfortunately dropped all three of his round robin matches at the end of year ATP Finals in London. Falling to Alexander Zverev, Jack Sock, and Roger Federer, the world No. 6 failed to advance at the end of year event.
Marin Cilic’s sole title in 2017 came at the Istanbul Open.
Defeating Milos Raonic in two hard fought sets, Cilic earned the title at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open in Istanbul, Turkey. It would be the 17th career ATP singles title to his name.
Remaining among the best in the sport, Cilic is an interesting player to watch on the 2018 ATP World Tour. A former US Open champion, the Croatian saw himself reach the finals at Wimbledon 2017. His resurgence on tour makes him a contender in any of the major tournaments this coming year. While players such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be the favorites, Cilic poses a threat in any match he’s in.

Marin Cilic is one of the few veterans beside Federer and Nadal to end the year high in the rankings. Several other veteran greats saw their seasons cut short due to injury in 2017. The 2018 ATP World Tour will look drastically different than its previous year with the return of these players. All veterans, Cilic included, will need to take on the rising generation of young players. The world No. 6 is set up to start 2018 on the right foot. His career high ranking of No. 4 came just this past year and he will likely attempt to break into the ATP’s top three.
