Witnessing an epic finals showdown in 2017, Federer defeated Nadal in five sets for the Grand Slam title. He took their meeting at the Australian Open 6–4, 3–6, 6–1, 3–6, 6–3. Now, he seeks to defend the title in the coming year.

Roger Federer is a five-time champion at the Australian Open.

With such a breadth of experience at Melbourne Park, the Swiss great is easily the favorite to win in 2018. He will be joined, however, by several returning top players.

Former world No. 1s Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic are both expected to be back in time for the Australian Open. Both are currently recovering from injuries. Also returning to the courts is Swiss star Stan Wawrinka. He is the 2014 champion at the event. While Murray is yet to win the major tournament, Djokovic is a six-time winner there. The Serbian finds himself just behind Federer and Nadal in terms of odds to win the Grand Slam title.
