Lucas Pouille poised to rise in 2018 ATP singles rankings

Lucas Pouille is fresh off of helping France earn a Davis Cup win. The young French tennis star is poised to rise in the men’s singles rankings next year.

Lucas Pouille saw new career heights on the 2017 ATP World Tour.

In fact, his previous two years on tour have included all four of his ATP singles titles. During the 2017 tour, however, he earned three of those four titles. Now, he is set to continue challenging the best in men’s singles tennis in 2018.

Pouille earned titles in Vienna, Budapest, and Stuttgart on the 2017 ATP World Tour. His fantastic play even rocketed him as high as the world No. 13 ranking midseason. He should carry his newfound momentum right into play during the early months of the 2018 tour.

Lucas Pouille also helped France earn a 10th Davis Cup title.

The 23-year-old French tennis player is riding high. Not only is he playing stellar tennis on tour, but he aided his Davis Cup team in order to defeat the Belgians in November. France wins their Davis Cup meeting 3-2 thanks to his and his teammates’ play.

Pouille ends his year as the world No. 18 in men’s singles tennis. His 36-22 singles match record, along with his three titles, helped secure him a place in the ATP top 20. Heading in the 2018 ATP World Tour, Pouille is sitting right behind American tennis veteran John Isner. Pouille is just 30 points behind Isner in the singles rankings.

The road toward a higher ranking will require taking on both veteran greats and fellow up and coming stars. Men’s singles tennis is witnessing a new era of play right now. Grounded by the fantastic veteran displays of talent behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the old guard sees themselves face to face with players such as Lucas Pouille. The 23-year-old French tennis star has seen tournament wins and strong major tournament runs throughout the past two years. His 2018 ATP World Tour could shape up to be even better than 2017.
