Stan Wawrinka weighs in on knee injuries, Australian Open

Stan Wawrinka is hopeful that he will be ready for the 2018 Australian Open. The tennis star has undergone surgeries for his knee injuries in the offseason.
Stan Wawrinka is aiming to be ready for the 2018 Australian Open.
The Swiss tennis star is the 2014 champion in men’s singles at the major tournament. He has been, however, rehabbing and undergoing surgeries in his offseason. Wawrinka is working hard to overcome a knee cartilage injury which has required two surgeries.

Ending his 2017 ATP World Tour after Wimbledon, Wawrinka knew that he needed time to recover and heal from his ongoing knee issues. Winning one ATP singles title on the year, the Swiss tennis star ended his tour with a 26-11 singles match record. He was also able to remain in the ATP top 10, ending the year as the world No. 9.
Stan Wawrinka’s sole title in 2017 came in Geneva.
Fans at Melbourne Park are eager to see the former champion at the 2018 Australian Open. The Grand Slam win in 2014 was the first of his three career major tournament titles.
While the world No. 9 admits that he is not yet one hundred percent, he is optimistic about his chances in early 2018. He has kept fans informed about his progress during the offseason. With two surgeries under his belt, Wawrinka is working to rebuild his muscles and makeup for the time he has missed during recovery. He is hoping to join several other top players in men’s singles tennis such as Novak Djokovic who are also making returns from injury.

Stan Wawrinka remains on target for the 2018 Australian Open. The tournament’s 2017 champion in men’s singles was Roger Federer. Defeating Rafael Nadal in the finals, Federer kicked off what would end up as a fantastic year in his accomplished career. Both Federer and Nadal dominated play on the 2017 ATP World Tour. Djokovic, who is a six-time champion at the Australian Open, would be a strong addition to the 2018 event.
