Zverev reached several career bests in 2017. Not only did he make a quarterfinals run at Melbourne Park, but he would reached the world No. 25 ranking in men’s singles come mid-year. The German tennis veteran proved that he has what it takes to be a top player in any tournament.
Mischa Zverev’s run at Melbourne Park included wins over both John Isner and Andy Murray.
The American Isner was the 19th seed at the major tournament. The German tennis veteran met him in the round of 64, taking the match in a five-set epic.
Murray, on the other hand, was the top seed at the 2017 Australian Open. Coming in as the runner-up from the previous year, the then world No. 1 could not keep up with Zverev in the fourth round of play. The underdog Zverev took their match in four sets, closing out the final two convincingly. In the quarterfinals, the German would face Swiss great Roger Federer.
