Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki to headline St. Petersburg 2018

Simona Halep is the current world No. 1 in women’s singles tennis. She has announced her participation in the 2018 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.
Simona Halep ends the 2017 WTA Tour on top of the women’s singles rankings.
Now, the world No. 1 is gearing up for several big tournaments in early 2018. Just after play at Melbourne Park, she will headline action at the 2018 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy in Russia. Last year, Halep reached the quarterfinals before having to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Halep and other top players in women’s singles tennis will be featured at the upcoming WTA Tour event. Also in action will be WTA Finals champion Caroline Wozniacki and French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.
Simona Halep looks to kick off the 2018 WTA Tour on a high note.
Just prior to action in St. Petersburg is the first Grand Slam event of the year. Halep remains in search of her first ever Grand Slam singles title on the WTA Tour. She is, however, a juniors champion, but will be looking to continue her 2017 success in the early months of the upcoming season.
Wozniacki should be an exciting player to watch in St. Petersburg. Fresh off of her first ever WTA Finals title, the Danish tennis star has the big tournament experience necessary to compete against any field of players. She and Halep will certainly be top contenders at the WTA event. Last year, rising French tennis star Kristina Mladenovic took home the title.

Look for Simona Halep to come out strong in the early weeks of the 2018 WTA Tour. Her play in Australia will likely lead her right into action in St. Petersburg where she will be a featured player. A healthy Halep should be considered the favorite in any of the early tournaments this year. Also set to play in St. Petersburg is Caroline Garcia, Julia Goerges, and Dominika Cibulkova among others.
