Serena Williams to play Mubadala World Tennis Championship

Serena Williams announces that she will play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship this week. She is returning after giving birth to her daughter.

This year’s tournament will feature both Williams and French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko as the first women in the event’s history. They will be featured in a one off singles match.

Williams recently gave birth to her daughter in September. After winning the 2017 Australian Open, the former world No. 1 stepped away from the courts.

Last year at Melbourne Park, Williams took home her 23rd career Grand Slam singles title with the win. Defeating sister Venus in the finals, she would win a major tournament title before stepping away to give birth to her daughter later in the year.
Now, the WTA Tour is eager to see her back in action. The event in Abu Dhabi will be telling as the former world No. 1 takes to the courts for the first time since the birth of her daughter. While her name appeared on the entry list to the 2018 Australian Open, many have continued to speculate as to whether or not the American tennis superstar will truly be in action. Her play in Abu Dhabi could prove to be eye-opening for fans and players alike.
