Angelique Kerber teams up with Alexander Zverev at Hopman Cup

Angelique Kerber is teaming up with rising Next Generation ATP star Alexander Zverev at this year’s Hopman Cup. Action kicks off this week at the event.
Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev are featured as team Germany at this year’s Hopman Cup. Both players are looking to kick off their upcoming tours on a high note.
The Hopman Cup is an ITF event that features mixed-gender teams vying for the title. Taking place Perth, Australia, the tournament is a fantastic lead-in the the first Grand Slam on both the ATP World Tour and WTA Tour. Kerber and Zverev alike will look to standout this week.

Kerber is a former world No. 1 on the WTA Tour. She is also the 2016 champion at the Australian Open. With two Grand Slam singles titles to her name, the German tennis star is poised to make another bid for the top ranking in the sport.
Angelique Kerber is a strong outside contender for the title at Melbourne Park.
Undergoing a coaching change this year, Kerber is attempting to regain the rhythm she had just one year ago. Her 2017 WTA Tour saw both ups and downs, especially compared to her career year in 2016.
As for Zverev, the young German tennis star became a household name in men’s singles this past year. He even saw an ATP Finals debut and career heights in the rankings. Both he and Zverev can make a splash as this year’s Hopman Cup. Action kicks off for them against team Belgium on Monday. Team Belgium includes David Goffin and Elise Mertens.

Look for Angelique Kerber to come out strong in the early events of the 2018 WTA Tour. Play at the Hopman Cup will be a nice transition into the upcoming tournaments. Adding coach Wim Fissette to her team recently, the German tennis star is determined to once again have an impact on women’s singles tennis. Returning American superstar Serena Williams will also be a player to watch in the early events of 2018. She and current world No. 1 Simona Halep ought to be considered strong favorites at the Australian Open. If Kerber can find her rhythm though, the former world No. 1 can play the underdog card at Melbourne Park.
