Roger Federer enters the 2018 ATP World Tour on top of his game. The Swiss tennis superstar is poised to have another career year.

Roger Federer is gearing up for the 2018 tour at the ITF’s Hopman Cup this week.

The Swiss tennis great is coming off of a career year on the ATP World Tour where he added two more Grand Slam singles titles to his name. Now, the world No. 2 is poised to retake the top ranking in men’s singles tennis and could make a run at the upcoming Australian Open.

Last year, Federer topped his career best in terms of first and second serve winners. His seven ATP singles titles went along with a beyond impressive 52-5 singles match record. If he approaches the 2018 ATP World Tour with a similar mindset, there is no reason to think that Federer won’t be on top yet again.

Roger Federer is the defending champion at the Australian Open.

As the Australian Open is right around the corner, Federer enters as a favorite to win.

He has five career titles at the major tournament and will look to add yet another to his resume. Last year, he defeated Rafael Nadal in five sets during their finals meeting. While Nadal ended the year as the world No. 1, he has continued to struggle with lingering injuries even in the offseason. The Spanish superstar is already limiting his play in January leading into action at Melbourne Park.

Roger Federer appears to have plenty left in the tank. Even at 36-years-old, the Swiss great has the energy, skillsets, and experience necessary to hold onto the sport’s top ranking. On the 2017 ATP World Tour, he even went undefeated against Nadal in their head-to-head matches. Federer often jokingly notes that avoiding Nadal on clay is key to some of that success. If both players can remain healthy throughout the majority of the 2018 ATP World Tour, they will continue to make headlines in men’s singles tennis.
