Alex De Minaur: shocking upset over Milos Raonic in Brisbane

Alex De Minaur continues to amaze at the 2018 Brisbane International. The 18-year-old upsets former world No. 3 Milos Raonic.

Alex De Minaur is making a name for himself at the Brisbane International.

The 18-year-old is from Sydney, Australia and defeated American Steve Johnson in his opening match. The win setup a meeting between him and former world No. 3 Milos Raonic. He upsets the Canadian tennis star in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4.

De Minaur was in disbelief even after the match. Noticeably shaky in his post-match interviews, the young Australian could not believe what had just happened. Now, he moves into the quarterfinals in Brisbane.

Alex De Minaur is the current world No. 208 in men’s singles tennis.

Up next for the young Australian is a quarterfinals meeting with American tennis player Michael Mmoh. The American is just 19-years-old and is also coming off of a strong win on his end.

Mmoh upsets eighth seeded Mischa Zverev to reach the quarterfinals action at the Brisbane International. The American is the current world No. 175 on the ATP World Tour. Coming into Brisbane as a qualifier, he is yet to drop a match thus far. Zverev is the first player he has met this week to take a single set off of him. The two rising tennis star square off tomorrow for their quarterfinals meeting at the 2018 Brisbane International.

As for Raonic, he has not played since October of last year. Showing some signs of rust, the Canadian ought to rebound relatively quickly from the upset. Raonic is the 2016 men’s singles champion in Brisbane. His loss could help clear the way for top seeded Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian is the current world No. 3 in men’s singles tennis.
