Eugenie Bouchard is coming off of play at the 2018 Hopman Cup. The Canadian appears to have suffered a buttocks injury during her meeting with Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
The young Canadian tennis star does not seem too concerned about the potential injury though. She stated after the match that it could’ve been a pull or strain and she will see how it feels in the coming days. Bouchard is in action at the Hobart International tomorrow.

WTA Tour action at the 2018 Hobart International is already underway. Bouchard’s opening round match against Aryna Sabalenka takes place tomorrow. Sabalenka is coming off of a quarterfinals loss to world No. 1 Simona Halep at the Shenzhen Open. Halep would go on to win the title in Shenzhen.
Eugenie Bouchard is looking for a bounce back year on the 2018 WTA Tour.
Fans of Genie are eagerly awaiting her play in Hobart. While team Canada did not fare well at this year’s Hopman Cup, the Canadian has the chance to bounce back before the 2018 Australian Open.
Her opening round match should reveal just how severe the potential injury is that she suffered during Hopman Cup play. Interestingly enough her Hopman Cup opponent Mertens, is the defending champion in women’s singles at the Hobart International. Bouchard is a former runner-up at the WTA Tour event, having finished second at Hobart in 2016. Look for Bouchard to not only test out her potential injury tomorrow, but to also come out strong if healthy. She will need all of the momentum she can get heading into play at Melbourne Park.

Eugenie Bouchard needs a strong 2018 WTA Tour. She has made changes to both her coaching team and workout regimen in this past offseason. At just 23-years-old, there is no reason to think that the young Canadian can’t bounce back to career heights. In 2014, she reached as high as the world No. 5 ranking on the WTA Tour. Bouchard ought to crack back into the WTA top 100 in the very near future and surge much higher if she can find her rhythm in the coming months. Stay tuned to see how Genie and others fare in the early months of the 2018 WTA Tour. Check back for updates on all of the action at the Hobart International and then at Melbourne Park for this year’s Australian Open.
