By Harry Floyd
Angelique Kerber celebrates her 30th birthday at the 2018 Australian Open! The former world No. 1 is into the third round of play.
Angelique Kerber turns 30-years-young on January 18, 2018. The German tennis star is a former world No. 1 and the 2016 champion in women’s singles at the Australian Open.
So far at Melbourne Park, Kerber is off to a fantastic start. She is also fresh off of a title win at the 2018 Sydney International. While 2017 saw both ups and downs for the former world No. 1, Kerber is back and better than ever in 2018.

Starting the year at the Hopman Cup, Kerber saw some success alongside partner Alexander Zverev. Both players are into the third round action at Melbourne Park.
Up next for Angelique Kerber at the Australian Open is Maria Sharapova.
The third round meeting features two former champions at the Grand Slam event. Sharapova is the 2008 champion in women’s singles at the Australian Open. She continues to bounce back from her 15th month suspension due to the use of a banned substance. Sharapova is a five-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world No.1.
Kerber is the No. 21 seed this year at the Australian Open. Her current seeding and Sharapova’s non-seeding are not something that WTA fans are used to. Either player is plenty capable of making a title run at the major tournament. While the seedings do not reflect it, both Kerber and Sharapova are top contenders for the women’s singles title this year.
