Australian Open action is seeing several young players make deep runs. Here’s a look at the rising stars who have reached the quarterfinals.

The Australian Open is into the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park. In the mix on the men’s singles side are both veteran greats and young up and comers.

It might come as no surprise that rising star Grigor Dimitrov is still alive at the Grand Slam. The 26-year-old Bulgarian tennis star is the current ATP Finals champion. His run so far at Melbourne Park has seen wins over the likes of Andrey Rublev and Nick Kyrgios.

Up next for Dimitrov is another rising star in the sport. British No. 2 Kyle Edmund takes on the third seeded Bulgarian for a chance at the semifinals. Edmund is just 23-years-old and sits just behind Andy Murray in terms of the British men’s singles rankings.

Edmund is the current world No. 49 on the ATP World Tour and remains in search of his first ever ATP singles title. His quarterfinals appearance is the furthest he has ever reached at a major tournament. A title win at the Australian Open would be beyond phenomenal if it were to be Edmund’s first ever ATP singles title. He will need to get past the red hot Dimitrov first though.

Also in action in South Korean star Hyeon Chung. The young up and comer is fresh off of an upset victory of Novak Djokovic. Winning in straight sets, Chung sets himself up for a match with another young tennis player, Tennys Sandgren. Both players are into the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam for the first time in their careers. Along with Edmund, they are also the only unseeded players still alive on the men’s singles side at Melbourne Park.

Elsewhere, defending champion Roger Federer and top seed Rafael Nadal remain alive. Also in action is US Open champion Marin Cilic. The Croatian tennis star takes on Nadal next at the Grand Slam. Tomas Berdych faces the second seeded Federer. No matter what happens in the quarterfinals, we are sure to see a fantastic mix of both rising stars and veteran talent in the semifinals. There is potential for either a likely champion such as Federer or an unexpected title winner. The young stars will need to be at their best every step of the way.
