Madison Keys is set to face former Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals. While she is the higher seed, Kerber may be the favorite.
Madison Keys needs to be at her best against Angelique Kerber.
The young American tennis star faces the former Australian Open champion in the same place that they first met… Melbourne Park. In 2013, Kerber defeated Keys in straight sets in the third round. Now, Keys has a chance at redemption.
Just 22-years-old, Keys has burst onto the scene as a headline name in women’s singles tennis. She has incredible experience for such a young player. Her upcoming meeting with Kerber, however, requires her to draw upon all of it.
The German tennis star is an impressive 6-1 against the younger American.
Keys is fresh off of a win over eighth seeded Caroline Garcia. The American is this year’s No. 17 seed and Kerber is the No. 21. Don’t let Kerber’s seeding fool you though. She is off to a roaring start on the 2018 WTA Tour. Her up and down 2017 season saw her slide in the rankings but she appears to be back in her top form so far. The German took home the title at the Sydney International just prior to play at Melbourne Park.
The quarterfinals match goes down tomorrow at the Australian Open. Several other top players in women’s singles remain alive. Among those are both No. 1 and 2 seeds Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki. The road to a title is not going to be easy for anyone.

Look for Madison Keys to be a slight underdog against Angelique Kerber. While she is the higher seed, Kerber has the experience necessary to oust the younger Keys. The German’s career track record against the younger American gives her the better chance of advancing. Either way though, there is no doubt that Keys could complete the surprise upset. A win would give Keys her second ever semifinals appearance at the Grand Slam event. Stay tuned to see how all of the quarterfinals action in women’s singles unfolds at Melbourne Park this week.
