Nick Kyrgios is off to a stellar start in 2018. You never know which Kyrgios you will get when he steps onto the court, but it appears he’s come to play this year.

Nick Kyrgios should be pleased with his progress so far on the 2018 ATP World Tour. The Australian tennis star is a fan favorite and always adds a bit of spice to the sport of tennis.

In the past, Kyrgios has been penalized for his lack of effort on the court. When he comes to play though, he is one of the best in men’s singles tennis. After strong showings in the early weeks of this year’s tour, we may be witnessing a new era of Kyrgios.

Starting the year at the Brisbane International, the young Australian found himself on his home soil. He reached the semifinals and was face-to-face with top seeded Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian is the current ATP Finals champion and world No. 3 in men’s singles tennis. Kyrgios, however, would emerge victorious with a three set victory over the top seed.

Then, Kyrgios would take that momentum right into his finals meeting with American Ryan Harrison. Winning the finals match 6-4, 6-2, the world No. 17 defied the odds and silenced his critics. Up next would be play at the 2018 Australian Open.

Despite his young age of just 22-years-old, the Australian had previously reached the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park in 2015. After making a name for himself in 2014, Kyrgios has shown signs of brilliance every year since. This year at the Australian Open, he impressed yet again. In the third round of play, he took down French tennis star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a stellar four set match victory. He would move on and face Dimitrov once again in the fourth round. While the Bulgarian got the best of him this time, Kyrgios appears to be bringing his best in 2018.
