Kristina Mladenovic, Timea Babos win Australian doubles title

Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos are overjoyed this week at the Australian Open. The doubles pairing takes the title on the women’s side.

Kristina Mladenovic has rebounded at Melbourne Park with a title win alongside doubles partner Timea Babos. Defeating the all-Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, the pair wins the title with a 6-4 6-3 victory.

The win is huge for both Mladenovic and Babos. While Babos reached the round of 64 in women’s singles this month, Mladenovic splashed out during her opener.

In women’s singles, Mladenovic is the current world No. 11 and Babos is the No. 7. Both players are top contenders in any tournament they play in. Their doubles rankings will without a doubt improve after their Australian Open title win.

Elsewhere at Melbourne Park, action in both mixed and men’s doubles is gearing up for finals action. On the men’s and women’s singles side, both finals matches are already set. Action is gearing up for a thrilling final weekend of tennis in Melbourne.

On the the men’s singles side, Swiss tennis great Roger Federer aims to notch his 20th career Grand Slam singles title. He faces former US Open champion Marin Cilic for a chance at the title. On the women’s singles side, both top seeds Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki square off for the title. No matter who wins between Halep and Wozniacki, there will be a brand new Grand Slam singles champion in the mix after this weekend.
