Even Murray underwent surgery in order to address his ongoing hip injury this month. The surgery and rehab puts him off the ATP World Tour for several months at least. He will look to bounce back for the grass season, but that is assuming all goes according to plan. As for Djokovic’s elbow injury, it was clear that it impacted his play during the fourth round at Melbourne Park. He has not updated the public regarding the injury since his exit from the Australian Open though.
Fans are hopeful that Djokovic simply needs to ease himself back into competitive ATP action. With several young rising stars on tour right now, any time away means that the former world No. 1 is losing ground in the rankings though.
He ought to keep in mind his position in the rankings and how his scheduling will impact his bids for upcoming Grand Slams. If he can remain healthy enough to compete leading into either the French Open or at Wimbledon, Djokovic must be considered a top contender.
